People are at the center of my art. Initially as a portrait, then more and more abstract until finally only the most elementary visible objects remain. The eyes, the nose, the mouth. Sometimes supplemented by (listening) ears or (grasping) hands. The smiling mouth is my favorite next to the amused observing eyes: those who laugh do not argue. Laughing together creates togetherness. Laughter makes you happy.
The idea for my objects arises in everyday life. In encounters with people or when observing my surroundings.
I immediately process my ideas into small hand sketches with quick lines. Sometimes it takes time for what I have experienced to settle and suddenly emerge with a clear line.
I make the first 3D models from cardboard, hot glue, wood and wire. Dimensions are immediately noticeable and can be easily and simply adapted.
I prefer to work with steel. Precious, coated or untreated. However, I am happy to experiment with wood, stone or glass and work together with selected specialists.
I process steel with a hacksaw, plasma cutter, angle grinder, belt grinder and gas-shielded welder.
The steel sculptures are untreated, rusting or coated. They can be displayed in a room, on a terrace or in the garden. The smaller steel sculptures can be used as a template for objects professionally produced by a metalworker.
I like art in public spaces. For me, they are little pearls in everyday life that can cheer up people who happen to be passing by.
Such sculptures are made in an art metalworking shop based on my designs, as their size and weight exceed my capacity in the workshop.
As a person, I love challenges, organizing and solving complex problems. The production of large, moving and electronically processed sculptures is a vision that challenges and wonderfully combines my skills as an artist and electrical engineer.
